jonnie austen - designer resume'
Throughout his professional career jonnie austen has been involved in virtually every aspect of the visual and digital design industry. Born and raised in Honolulu to an Hawaiian ohana of ali'i heritage and a proud alumnus of the Kamehameha Schools, he began his extensive professional career while he was still studying fine arts at the University of Hawaii. jonnie soon became fascinated with photography and ultimately chose it as the ideal medium for his creative expression.
His passion for photography led jonnie to start his first professional venture, a freelance photography studio in Honolulu. He specialized in advertising and fashion photography and soon his natural artistic talent and creativity came to the attention of some top advertising art directors who recommended that jonnie study photography and graphic design at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles - considered by most advertising and design professionals to be the world's premier advertising design school.
While attending Art Center jonnie also accepted freelance photography assignments from major Hollywood record labels. After a couple of years of freelance work around Hollywood he returned to Hawaii and opened his own creative design studio where he continued to develop his talents and hone his skills in virtually every aspect of advertising, graphic design and visual media.
jonnie earned an associate degree in computer graphics with high honors and has also taught computer graphics and website design college courses.
jonnie's design studio, Digible Dreams, produced the advertising and graphic design that make up the impressive creative work that can be found in his design portfolio.
jonnie has also been the art director and lead graphic designer at Austen Design, Chameleon Productions, Reality Entertainment and HonStudios. jonnie was responsible for creative design as well as promotions, marketing and publicity for these firms.
in addition to his own streetwear brands jonnie has designed streetwear for Kaimi HI, Occupy Streetwear, Phelony Clothing, Waikiki Surf, Galaxy, Kontrolled Kaos (mma), Hawaii Rides (moto-x), Dopamine Clothing, and A.I. Forever (a prospective surf apparel brand concept). Recently jonnie founded the one of his own streetwear apparel brands, pono streetwear llc. in 2012 jonnie will launch the first five of a projected 24 streetwear brands (most of which are in various stages of development). these first 5 brands include; pono streetwear, pono private label, urban rebel brand (urb), reptha808 (fka 808 represent, aka 808rep) and sk808 skateboards. jonnie's current plans are to launch these brands in the Summer and Fall of 2012.
