An ongoing project that originated as a thunderhead formed over the Grand Canyon, Surreal Escapes morphs spectacular vistas into otherworldly visions. Lisa’s use of desaturated infrared creates a powerful sense of color and luminosity that bursts through a limited gray scale palette. Composi-tionally, the images are reminiscent of Rorschach inkblot tests, symmetrical yet chaotic with organic form. To view these images, Lisa suggests a “suspension of belief.” The works represent serenity in a chaotic world and Lisa states that she is creating “a place where people feel suspended in time.”
Her approach to photography is an extension of her fine art paintings, large scale abstract expressionist works that have been featured in motion picture and television productions. “Painting is the purest form of expression for me,” says Lisa, “and therefore it is a very spiritual experience for me to paint.” She uses infrared as a way to paint with "film", literally creating something out of “the spectrum of life which is unseeable.”
