Brief Summary
“On some days I wake up and feel like an artist, some days a pornographer, some days a director, on some, a creator, occasionally a photographer, but the days I wake up and feel like I am just another guy with a camera, those are the days which truly disturb me.” – Shivaji Sen

Born in Patna, East India on a chilly December morning in 1982

Shivaji completed his schooling from The Doon School situated in the idyllic town of Dehradun. His school days were spent in painting, winning art competitions and playing chess. But soon the manic Mumbai beckoned him as he moved to India’s financial capital to pursue his undergraduate degree in Business Management from St. Andrews College, University of Mumbai.

Even as he climbed the corporate ladder in the video game industry, the artist in him refused to lay latent; so he practiced photography on the side – honing his skills while doing a full time job. From working on several assignments as photojournalist for The Times of India to covering the India Fashion Week, he established himself as a commercial photographer of repute. But, unsatisfied by the direction his work was taking, he decided he needed a more formal and academic understanding of the craft. A year later he became a Master of Art in Photography from The Arts University College at Bournemouth (2011).

Shivaji now is an independent artist and a freelance image maker, based in the UK, who works in fashion with a fine art approach and questions gender and racial discrimination imposed by society in his personal practice.
