André van Oudheusden is currently the principal of Atelier AVO which was founded in April 2010. Born and educated in the Netherlands, he has been a resident in England for over twenty years where he has gained his work experience by taking leading positions with architectural firms like HOK, KPF and SOM.
He has extensive experience of designing large scale commercial and public buildings and developments; in addition to a range of high rise building, mixed-use and high quality residential developments as well commercial office and corporate buildings and healthcare projects.
He has also designed a wide variety of special use projects including an international passenger’s terminal in Amsterdam and the BBC television centre stage 6 in London.
André is driven by a consistent philosophical approach influenced by project specific conditions coming from the environment, the surrounding fabric and the individuals working as a team. His aim of this approach is to create specifically detailed buildings that are involving in context and function.
Each of the buildings has a civic responsibility above and beyond its specific function. Each building engages the tradition of its location. The design of each structure draws on its context; it becomes part of the fabric of the city which we pass on to our successors. In this process we are contributing to an environment that constantly changes.
His design approach is to engage towards applicable construction techniques, suitable for its purpose and innovative building components in order to make our buildings more efficient.
