Brief Summary
Rebecca Cusworth graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 2010 with a BA (Hons) in Painting and Printmaking with distinction in Historical and Critical Studies. She has recently exhibited in the UK and internationally, working in conjuncture with the Cromarty Arts Trust to bring her solo show The Village Lady to The Stables Gallery and instrumenting group shows in both London and Glasgow with artist collective When The Moon which she founded in 2010. She is a recipient of the David Cargill Travel Bursary, the RSA John Kinross Scholarship, a RSA Residencies for Scotland Bursary in association with Creative Scotland and the Cromarty Arts Trust, an Arts Trust Scotland grant and a stipend for residency with Can Serrat Centro de Actividades Artisticas (Catalonia).

She has been invited to present at SUPERCLUB, 'Collaboration and Social Media', event chaired by Andrew Bryant, Online Editor of a-n Magazine, and 'Pecha Kucha Vol 20' at Inspace Edinburgh, a joint research partnership between the School of Informatics and New Media Scotland.

Her current body of research explores the unsettling and unheimlech relationship between women and nature which has amalgamated in to feminised monsters that haunt the fringes of society; shape-shifters that morph with the moon and straddle the border between civilisation and the primal wilderness.
Cusworth performs her own primitivism in ritualistic acts to explore woman’s role as ‘other’ to the male in discourse with the animistic cultures role as ‘the other’ to civilized society. Developing a body of totemistic sculpture and photography the work toys with the patriarchal representation of the primal women as a savage and a deviant.
