The North West
Brief Summary
I was born on the countryside, but lived there only for three years, so even before I became conscious I already left to move to a very small and cozy village. I do have vivid memories of living in that little house in the forest. And I think that, unconsciously, it nested itself somewhere very deep inside of me. And it will always be the root of who I am and has influenced my photography style.

I used to live in a house in the forest. We had chickens and a rooster, a duck, eight cats, a bird, a weasel, a bunny and a pony. You could walk straight from our back garden into the forest. From the front garden you’d walk into large stretching grass and grain fields.
I’d sit in the compost pile in our back yard and collect and play with insects. I made dream catchers of spider’s webs. It was silent, and at night you could see lots of stars and hear the ‘woosh – woosh of cars coming and fading far away.

I am a city dweller right now. And I get overwhelmed at times. I miss the silence and am jittery. The city is beautiful for meeting people and sitting in coffee houses and buying everything you want. There is public transport everywhere and you don’t ever have to wait long for a bus to stop by. You can buy cortados and carrot cake and go to store openings and concerts. There is a Moroccan bakery in walking distance from my house, I can get Surinam roti and delicious Turkish olives and drink sake and hear people speak exotic and incomprehensible languages.
But nothing makes my heart beat quite as excitedly as wild, free, lush nature.

Pounding, raging rivers, velvet-y soft mud, crispy, dewy grass and the intoxicating fresh smell of pine trees. When I am in nature I want to play. Run around, scream, howl, taste things, swim, lay down and be completely still. It’s very invigorating.

I have been primarily focusing on landscape photography but am planning to try out more portraits, scripted shoots and documentary style photographs.
I am always open to print swaps. If you are interested let me know!
