Brief Summary
I am a professional artist with well over fourteen years of experience. Originally from South Africa I now live in Kent, in the UK, with my lovely wife and our two awesome boys.

I am the creator of The Sun newspaper’s ‘Shadows’ comic, which was published in the newspaper, every Monday to Friday, for three years. I was entirely responsible for the comic, from the writing of the story to the production of the artwork.

Over the course of my career I have been fortunate enough to work in many various creative fields, from computer games and animation to 3d comics and graphic design. I was lead texture artist on an xbox released game and have completed work for The Sun newspaper, BBC2 and many clients world wide.

In 2012 I set up my own company, KFR Creative Ltd, in order to develop my own personal projects. In development currently are ideas and concepts for brand and art licensing, with my character ‘Dude Zombie’ (of which I own the trademark) at the forefront.

Work Experience

Freelance Artist: 2007 - present

Coconut Cove: The Legend of Cap'n Crab
A new comic series with interactive features for an iPad application.
Programs used: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Flash.
Created the idea and concept behind the comic. Created all of the characters and designed the world they live in. Produced all of the artwork for the comic pages as well as the iPad app. Designed the games for the iPad app along with all of the artwork. Outsourced programmers for the app.
Skills utilized: Comic and cartoon illustration. Character design. Concept art. Comic writing and storyboarding.

Shadows comic
Client: The Sun newspaper
Skills utilized: 3d modelling and texturing, lighting and rendering. Compositing of images in Photoshop. 3d illustration. Comic writing and storyboarding. Character design and development. Environment design. Good organisational and time management skills.
Programs used: Adobe Photoshop, Maya, Zbrush, Daz Studio.
I developed the basic idea given by the client into a full working concept that was approved upon first showing.
I was responsible for everything, from writing the stories to producing all of the artwork.
Had to produce five pages of comics every week.
Never missed a deadline.

Real Heroes
Client: The Sun newspaper
Skills utilized: 3d modelling and texturing, lighting and rendering. Compositing of images in Photoshop. 3d illustration. Comic writing and storyboarding. Good organisational skills.
Programs used: Adobe Photoshop, Maya, Daz Studio.
Had to produce eight comic stories for the Help for Heroes charity book, ‘Real Heroes’.
Stories based on real people and events in the war in Afghanistan. I had to research the events and create comic stories of about ten pages in length each.
Build and texture 3d models of characters, weapons, vehicles and environments.
Produce all of the artwork, from the 3d renders right through to finished illustrations.
Worked with the publisher to get the final product done on time.

Meta4orce
Client: Bloc Media Ltd for the BBC2 Switch
Skills utilized: 3d modelling and texturing, lighting and rendering, animation. Good organisational and time management skills.
Programs used: Maya, Adobe Photoshop.
Was tasked with modelling and texturing an entire flooded London scene, along with various iconic landmarks, such as Big Ben and the London Eye.
Animate vehicles and camera movement.
Render out the scenes according to the directors timing charts.

Artist, ‘The Premier’ comic, The Sun Newspaper: 2003 - 2007
Programs used: Maya, Poser, Adobe Photoshop.
Part of a four man team writing and producing all of the artwork for The Sun newspaper’s ‘The Premier’ comic, which was published every day in the paper. Comic writing, 3d modelling, texturing, rendering and compositing in Photoshop. 3d illustration. I was also responsible for most of the environment models.

Artist, ‘Striker 3D’ comic: 2002 - 2003
Programs used: Maya, Poser, Adobe Photoshop.
3d artist on the comic strip, Striker 3d. Modelling, texturing and rendering. Responsible for a lot of the environment models.

Lead Texture Artist, I-Imagine Interactive: 2000 - 2002
Programs used: Adobe Photoshop, 3ds Max.
I was lead texture artist on the xbox released game, Chase Hollywood Stunts, for South Africa’s first console game development company. I was also responsible for modelling and texturing a number of vehicles and other models in the game.

Personal
Originally from South Africa but now British Citizens. Married to my lovely wife since 2001. We have two awesome boys, now 5 and 8 years old, that help us love life even more. I have ALWAYS been passionate about art, drawing, cartooning, comics... anything creative. I love what I do and love being inspired by the creativity of others. I like to live a healthy lifestyle and really enjoy mountain biking.
