Contemporary conceptual painter and art educator Chitra Ramanathan 's career emerged on Broadway's SoHo Gallery District in New York City in 1995, with her now-extensive body of paintings being inspired by the intuitive quality of happiness and expressing happiness in visual form. The theme of her work took shape during an extensive visit to Paris, France in 1992 dedicated to study art, while inspired by Monet's garden in Giverny.

Her work has been widely acquired by individual and corporate sources, as well as invitational site-specific public art commissions that have been based on her unique style. Corporate commissions include the MGM Mirage to create a permanent installation of a pair of signed large-scale paintings inside the Bellagio Hotel, Las Vegas.

In 2005, the artist was invited to the Royal Academy of Arts, London UK as Visitor Artist for a visual presentation of her body of work and to conduct student tutorials at the RA Schools, an invitation from the then-Head of the Royal Academy of Arts.

Chitra Ramanathan earned her Bachelors degree in Painting with Honors from the School of Art and design at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Illinois. She received her M.B.A from the same institution in 1997.
