Van Andel Research Institute
Designed by Rafael Vinoly Architects, this was an addition to the original building. The design of the rounded ceilings in the lab space was meant to involve the feeling of the nearby rapids from which the city of Grand Rapids draws its name. However by making nearly every part of the curved ceiling out of glass they were also able to let an unbelievable amount of daylight into every laboratory space; a feature that is unique to this building.
