The eldest son of a Western historian, I’m interested in the architectural artifacts and geologic history of the region. As an explorer, my camera is an extension of my eyes, and I use the lens to further my examination of interesting subjects, both manmade and natural. As an artist, I’m interested in the effects of the passage of time, on a geologic as well as on a human scale.
Sweeping western vistas, quirky artifacts & architectural detail as landscape are highlights of my work. My visual commentary is captured digitally using small format cameras, photographed with humor and artistic vision. God’s light and a designer's eye illuminate the poetry of land & sky on pigment prints made personally.
Whether illustrating the passage of deep time in a desert canyon, or the age of a long gone ranch, my work echoes the politics, history and cultures that collided in Westward expansion, and carries spiritual overtones that reflect the lives of original natives and settlers past & present.
