John Michael studied art and architecture at Iowa State University and the University of Minnesota. He later focused his attention on painting and had several one-man art shows in Minnesota.
While living in Minnesota he began a serious study of photography and became a professional photographer in the mid-80s, specializing in editorial, alternative portraiture for models and musicians, and weddings.
It was during that time that he became interested in digital photography and digital enhancement to photos. His first website was an online brochure/portfolio for his photography business. Since then he has become an expert at photo manipulation and enhancement.
He relocated to Arizona in 1997 where he continued to paint and take on photography assignments.

John Michael is a gifted artist and he has won several prestigious awards relating to his painting. In 1993 and again in 1995, he was awarded First Place in the Center for the Arts open juried competition in Minnesota, which featured approx 600 entries both years.
