Matthew Porter’s (American, b. 1975) photographs capture a pause amidst clusters of absurd fantasy and muted desire. His spectacular shots of cars in mid-air on San Francisco streets, a dying nebula, and the Hindenburg making its way across the American West are mash-ups of reality and pure fiction. Their vibrant colors and seamless construction belie their fabricated nature, as they are moments of frozen time in a non-existent history. Manufacturing iconic images without factual account, Porter’s work is the stuff of legends.
Matthew Porter graduated from Bard with a BFA and most recently graduated from Bard/ICP with an MFA in Photography.
