Jean Marie Campbell embodies the definition of a twenty-first-century Renaissance Woman, embracing life through a variety of interests, activites, and passions. Jean is an accomplished illustrator and painter, a devoted yoga practitioner and instructor, entrepreneur, web designer, musician (her favorite guitar, "Gilda", is a metal-bodied resonator that she plays lap style), wife, and mother.
A defining characteristic of all of Jean's endeavors is her desire and ability to take what's on the inside and display it on the outside. As Jean puts it: "All of my life I have had a need to be actively producing. It has really never mattered so much what I was producing. It was more an urgent need to use time available in creating. It might be music; it might be planning a garden. It might be creating a mural, curtains, a painting or even knitting a scarf. I can say that for me, if my hands are not busy I am ill at ease, which to me is a sign of needing to get what is on the inside, out."
The works viewed here are "the efforts born of impulses from my soul and therefore, a common strain runs through them, my soulfulness."
Born in London, England to a military family, Jean spent much of her childhood in New Jersey and Hawaii before settling in her family's home state of Alabama. She attended the Universtiy of Montevallo, Montevalla, Alabama, where she received a bachelor's degree in fine arts.
Jean has worked in digital media since 1985, and currently works as a partner and art director for Deluxe Interactive Services, a web based design firm in Birmingham. She currently lives in Homewood, Alabama, with her husband A.R. Kirby, two dogs, four cats, numerous amphibians and fish.
