Brief Summary
A California native, and graduate of Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Martin French has been an independent illustrator and designer since 1996. He has been recognized internationally for his visual explorations of life and culture. Martin's images are displayed within a diverse media context including graphics for the Olympic Games, outdoor murals in Brazil, and portraits of GreenDay for the Grammy Awards.
Martin's work has received awards of excellence from the leading juried shows in the US including gold medals from the Society of Illustrators in New York and Los Angeles.
In addition to his private practice, Martin is an associate professor at the Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA), where in 2007 he began work on the formation of a new BFA program in Illustration. He currently serves as Department Chair, and teaches classes in professional practice, the history of illustration, and the intersection of design and illustration.
Martin lives and works in Portland, Oregon.
