Brief Summary
My name is Denise McDonald and I am an Australian potter based in Sydney and working under the business name DM Pottery.

I have been potting since 1996 when I enrolled in a Diploma of Arts - Ceramics course (Holmesglen College of TAFE - Melbourne). Since that time, most of my experience as a potter has been gained in small scale production studios, including Dartington Pottery in England, Tabletop Ceramics in Melbourne and Omelette Design in Sydney. This experience has given me a focus for consistent quality and functionality in my work which I endeavour to pass on to my customers.

I employ the potters wheel for most of my work (except for my buttons, coasters and jewellery) and also sometimes use a soft slab technique combined with the wheel. I like the immediacy of working on the wheel where every touch of the clay creates a new curve or bulge and every movement of the fingers has a consequence.

I mainly use two different clays, a buff coloured and a white stoneware. Stoneware by nature produces a strong robust product that is non-porous and chip resistant.

I formulate all of my own glazes and have taken care to ensure my functional glazes are food safe - they contain no lead or barium.

The Bazaar isn't really geared to selling unique ceramic items. I am therefore simply using this as an ad space. Please see my website at www.dmpottery.com.au and my Etsy online store at www.etsy.com/shop/dmpottery
