Brief Summary
Textile artist creating abstract Textile wall hangings from recycled materials sourced from car boot sales and charity shops. I have two bodies of work. The Natural Collection houses abstract flower designs, seasonal abstracts, visions of India, Buddhism and Christianity, childhood nostalgia and the seaside. The Womanhood Collection explores natural states of being such as the physical and emotional trauma of breast cancer, fertility, love, ego, sexuality.
Prints, created from detailed photographs can be purchasedin a range of colour and tone, both standard A4 and Limited Editions.
Some works are hand embroidered with original poetry, adding an emotional layering to which the viewer can identify.
I work to a seasonal clock, new works produced over the winter months to be photographed outside in the summer, images edited to produce new prints, to be added to site. I regularly blog from my website with new or seasonal works.
I am self taught, relying upon a traditional foundation of skills such as applique, dressmaking, quilting, hand embroidery. I enjoy exploring new materials (cat hair, my own hair, the lining of an old cushion, audio speaker lining, the underwire of a bra, nylon tights) with an insight into structure and depth, and fabric manipulation.
My favourite work is The Womanhood Collection, inspired by my breast cancer surgeries. I am now 10 years free of cancer.
I have not sold or exhibited works to date. My website outlines the online venues I am currently listed with including magazines.
I have been creating textiles for thirty years now and will continue to do so. It is an extension of my being.
