charles i. letbetter is the father of three boys, holds a degree in music, plays piano, writes, cooks, and even dabbles a bit in physics. This preacher’s kid has come a long way from the rural Oklahoma landscape on which he was raised, but he is still just as comfortable around cows and horses as he is subways and skyscrapers.
As a photographer, charles is best known for his expertise in utilizing natural and ambient light. While he is equally comfortable and effective in a studio setting, charles prefers the depth, artistry and emotion that comes from working with natural light.
charles’ fascination (and frequently frustration) with fashion can be traced to those early years when his mother would drag him with her on shopping trips for his style advice (who else would take style tips from a 12-year-old?). Having stood at the end of runways and worked with designers around the world, charles doesn’t hold back his opinions and views the relationship between fashion, art, and photography as one of mutual interdependence.
Artistically, charles bristles at the idea of adhering to a static style. Instead, he prefers an approach of “experimental evolution,” constantly pushing himself and his work in different directions. Resultingly, the pictures he takes today hold little resemblance to those six months ago. While this makes charles difficult to define and explain, he enjoys the fact that his work does not fit easily into a pre-determined category.
charles is available for commercial, fashion, artistic and event photography anywhere in the continental United States. International travel is more limited, but can be scheduled with sufficient notice.
