Brief Summary
I drew a lot of circles as an infant. That is beyond my memory but I still do draw circles to this day. I try overcome self-doubt with regards to my work by drawing as I did earlier in my life: with a naive passion and intense enthusiasm for the subject matter. I get inspiration from comic books, Heavy Metal music, Dungeons&Dragons, epic Fantasy literature, pulpy Sword & Sorcery tales, exploitation cinema and pre-Renaissance Italian painters. I try to plan ahead as little as possible to allow space for my stream of consciousness to plant ideas.
I was born in Canada but my folks quickly moved us to the suburbs outside New York City when my pop finished off his schooling in science. I was nearly a year old.
I studied illustration at Syracuse University, where I spent a semester abroad in Florence, Italy. I received a M.F.A. in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts.
Since graduating from college, in addition to doing freelance illustration, I've worked in newspapers and new media design. I currently reside in Brooklyn.
